Funeral services will be held for Thelma Elizabeth Johns Dunn, 85, Ville Platte, at Ninth Missionary Baptist Church in Ville Platte at 12 noon, Friday, March 18. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Ms. Dunn (Momma D) died Friday, March 4, 2016, in Montgomery, Maryland. She was born to Zeno Johns and Doffus Fields of Ville Platte on August 12, 1930. She was a member of Ninth Missionary Baptist Church in Ville Platte. She was baptized at an early age at Ninth Missionary Baptist Church, which was then under the leadership of the late Rev. W.C. Frank and is currently under the leadership of Rev. Darwan T. Lazard, where she has remained a member. She graduated from Ville Platte Negro High School in 1947 and later attended Grambling College, from which she graduated with a BS Degree in elementary education in 1951. After graduation, she taught in Rayne for one year. Ms. Dunn united in holy matrimony to the love of her life, the late Mr. Freddie L. Dunn Sr. (her brown bomber) on March 17, 1952. To this union was born two sons. She earned her Master’s Degree in 1969 and 30+ from Southern University in education.
For several years, Ms. Dunn served as a teacher and librarian at Carver Elementary School in Chataignier, as well as an elementary school teacher at James Stephens Elementary School in Ville Platte. She was the supervising teacher for many students completing their student teaching in Evangeline Parish. She retired from the Evangeline Parish School System in 1985. She was a member of the Evangeline Parish Retired Teachers Association, Louisiana Retired Teachers Association and the Herman McCall Alumni Chapter of Grambling State University. Her life was dedicated to education, community service and working with children and aspiring educators in Evangeline Parish. Ms. Dunn also served on the Evangeline Parish Police Jury and completed Mr. Dunn’s term from 1994-1995.
Survivors include two sons, Freddie Lee (Deborah) Dunn Jr. of Atlanta, Georgia, and Carl Dexter (Rosa) Dunn of Gaithersburg, Maryland; five grandchildren, Freddie Lee (Delilah) Dunn III, Desirae Thelet Dunn, Kevin Prescott (Lindsey) Dunn, Gregory Michael (Katondra) Dunn and Carl D. Dunn; two great-grandchildren, Owen Prescott Dunn and Maya Michelle Rose Dunn; one sister, Della M. Thomas of Lake Charles; one brother, Bervic B. (Verdie) Johns Sr. of Chicago, Illinois; three godchildren, Brenda Arvie, Darryl Davis and Sharon Stephens; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Freddie L. Dunn Sr.; her mother, Doffus Fields; her father, Zeno Johns; and three sisters, Bertha Jo Johns Davis, Helen Grace Frank and Gladys Deshotel.
Visitation will be observed from 10 a.m., until 12 noon, Friday, March 18, at Ninth Missionary Baptist Church in Ville Platte.
Rev. Darwan T. Lazard will officiate.

Clement “C.J.” Bergeron Jr.

Funeral services were held for Clement “C.J.” Bergeron Jr., 67, of Ville Platte, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Ville Platte at 11 a.m., Wednesday, March 16. Burial followed in the Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
A loving husband, father, brother, grandfather and friend, Mr. Bergeron died Monday, March 14, 2016, at his residence. He was a proud veteran of the United States Army in addition to being a volunteer firefighter for Ville Platte and a loyal member of Woodmen of the World for 45 years.
Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Gwen Vidrine Bergeron of Ville Platte; one son, Joseph Clement Bergeron and his wife, Keisha, of Lafayette; one daughter, Julie Celesta Bergeron of Ville Platte; one brother, George Wayne Bergeron and his wife, Marie, of Mamou; two sisters, Melba Benoit and her husband, Marvin, of Leonville and Martha Elaine Maddox and her husband, Joe Bob, of Lafayette. Also left behind to cherish his memory are his three grandchildren, Allison Paige Bergeron, Ellie Claire Bergeron and Drake Joseph Charlie.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Clement Bergeron Sr. and Marie Louise Bellard Bergeron.

MAMOU - Funeral services were held for Melisa K. Saucier, 51, of Mamou, at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Mamou at 2 p.m., Tuesday, March 15. Burial followed in the New St. Ann’s Cemetery.
A loving fiancé, godchild, niece, sister, aunt and friend, Ms. Saucier died Monday, March 14, 2016.
Survivors include her fiancé, Donald Gladfelter of Ville Platte; one brother, Randy Saucier of Mamou; one sister, Belinda Saucier of Mamou; and her aunt and uncle (godfather), Robert and Germaine Reed of Ville Platte. She will also be greatly missed by a host of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph (JL) Saucier and Helen Saucier.

Forrest William “Billy” Waddell Jr.

October 12, 1946 - March 10, 2016
A private family memorial service will be held for Forrest William “Billy” Waddell Jr., 69, of Mamou, at a later date. His wish was to donate his body to the Bureau of Anatomical Services and will be transported to LSU in New Orleans for medical teaching and research.
Mr. Waddell died Thursday, March 10, 2016. He was originally from Steubenville, Ohio, and moved to New Orleans at a young age. After leaving New Orleans, he lived in Mississippi for a time. He then moved his wife and four young children to Evangeline Parish, where he resided for 40 years. He was an Elvis impersonator and used his talent to raise money for cancer centers such as St. Jude’s. He will be dearly missed by all.
Survivors include his loving and devoted wife of 50 years, Mildred Marie Dupre Waddell of Mamou; one son, Forrest William Waddell III and his wife, Tanya, of Ville Platte; three daughters, Jolie Duplechin and her fiance, Bobby Carter, of Turkey Creek and Annette Granger and her husband, Jamie, and Stacey Guillory and her husband, Wayne, all of Mamou; one sister, Sue Waddell of Texas City, Texas; and one brother, Louis Waddell of Carriere, Mississippi. He also leaves behind to cherish his memory six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Forrest William Waddell Sr. and Florine Sprunk Waddell; one sister, Linda Frierson; and one brother, Charles Waddell.

A loving mother, sister, grandmother and friend, Ms. Terrell died Monday, March 21, 2016, at her residence.
Survivors include one son, Benjamin Terrell and his wife, Shari, of Tuscumbia, Alabama; one daughter, Madeline Marcantel and her husband, Jeremy, of Turkey Creek; two brothers, Dan Hill and his wife, Suzie, of Baton Rouge and Don Hill and his wife, Terry, of Dallas, Texas; and one sister, Nancy Amy of Eunice. Also left behind to cherish her memory are her six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Leon Terrell; and her parents, Morris and Austine Hill.

A loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother and friend, Mrs. Fontenot died Monday, March 21, 2016.
Survivors include her husband of 47 years, Joseph Fontenot of Ville Platte; three sons, Patrick Miller of Ville Platte, Jimmy Miller and his wife, Vianna, of Duson and Mike Miller of Baton Rouge; two daughters, Debbie Gorman and her husband, Richard, of Baton Rouge and Donna Pierce of Ville Platte; one brother, Glenn Pitre of Baytown, Texas; and one sister, Etheline Miller of Eunice. Also left behind to cherish her memory are her 14 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Nathan Bradley Sr. and Maple Dossman Bradley; and five siblings, Hurle Bradley, Nathan Bradley Jr., Phillip Bradley, Louis Bradley and Ennis Bradley.

A loving father, brother, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend, Mr. Veillon died Saturday, March 19, 2016. He was a retired farmer.

Funeral services were held for Joseph Daniel Elfert Sr., 89, of Labadieville, at St. Philomena Catholic Church in Labadierville at 10 a.m., Wednesday, March 30. A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m., Thursday, March 31, at the Miller Cemetery in Eunice.
A native and resident of Labadieville, Mr. Elfert died Sunday, March 27, 2016. He was the principal of St. Philomena Elementary School and Basile High School.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Miller Elfert; son, Joseph Daniel Elfert Jr. MD and wife Stephanie: their children, Joseph D. Mr. Guillory died Thursday, March 31, 2016, at his residence. He retired years ago from City Auto Parts and maintenance at the Evangeline Parish Court House.
Survivors include one son, Charles “Charlie” Paul Williams and his wife, Angie, of New Iberia; two daughters, Rachel Rider and her husband, Tony, of Ville Platte and Stephanie Rider and her husband, Brent, of Abbeville; one brother, Terryl Guillory of Ville Platte; his companion, Betty Miller of Grand Prairie; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren with one on the way.

LAKE CHARLES - Funeral services will be held for Rogers Gill LeJeune, 76, of Lake Charles, at St. Margaret Catholic Church in Lake Charles at 1 p.m., Monday, April 4. Burial will follow in the Consolata Cemetery.
Mr. LeJeune died Thursday, March 31, 2016. He was born in Mamou on August 12, 1939, to Cyuse and Lilly Vezina LeJeune. He graduated from Mamou High School in 1959 and has lived in Lake Charles for the past 53 years. He worked in the grocery industry for most of his life, retiring from the Kroger Company, and was a member of St. Margaret Catholic Church.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Dorothy Fontenot LeJeune of Lake Charles; two sons and daughters-in-law, Peter and Amy Joy LeJeune of Birmingham, Alabama, and Tim and Naomi LeJeune of Lake Charles; one daughter, Hope LeJeune of Kingwood, Texas; one sister, Everna Runnels of Mamou; two brothers, Jasper LeJeune of Franklin and Charles LeJeune of Eunice; one sister-in-law, Janet LeJeune of Franklin; and six grandchildren.
Visitation with the family will be on Monday, April 4, from 10 a.m. till 12 noon at Johnson Funeral Home, with a Rosary at 12 noon.
In lieu of flowers family request donations be made to St. Margaret Catholic School.
Father Nathan Long will officiate.
Johnson Funeral Home of Lake Charles will be in charge of arrangements.

Marjorie Fontenot Vidrine

March 28, 1926 - March 31, 2016
Funeral services will be held for Marjorie Fontenot Vidrine, 90, of Lafayette, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Ville Platte at 2 p.m., Monday, April 4. Burial will follow in the Attales Cemetery.
Mrs. Vidrine died Thursday, March 31, 2016.
Survivors include her husband, Roy Vidrine of Lafayette; one son, Timothy Vidrine of Lafayette; one sister, Betty Guillory of Mamou; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Hosea and Martha Veillon Fontenot; two brothers, Irving Ben Fontenot and Harry “Chunk” Fontenot; and one sister, Ella “MaeMae” Soileau.
A visitation will be held Monday, April 4, from 10 a.m. until the time of service, with a Rosary being recited at 11:30 a.m.
Father Matthew Barzare will officiate.

Funeral services were held for Waverlly Deville Doucet, 85, of Ville Platte, at Our Lady Queen of All Saints Catholic Church in Ville Platte at 3 p.m., Wednesday, April 6. Burial followed in the Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
Ms. Doucet died Sunday, April 3, 2016.
Survivors include four daughters, Judy Bordelon and her husband, Kern, and Sue Doucet, all of Ville Platte, and Brenella Doucet and Frenella Doucet, both of Pineville; two brothers, Cleophas Vidrine and his wife, Diane, of Illinois and Joseph Emile Vidrine and his wife, Betty, of Lafayette; and one sister, Jane Dunn and her husband, Larry, of Illinois.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Eddie and Vilina Soileau Deville; and her husband, Raphael Doucet.
Father Mitchell Guidry officiated.
